What the Society learns about you when you read this almanac or write to us, what we do with it, and what we promise not to do.

Who is keeping this record

The record keeper is Tidewater Culinary & Heritage Cider Society Inc., a Virginia nonstock corporation with rooms at 416 Prince George St, Williamsburg, VA 23185, trading as Williamsburg Harvest Celebration. Questions about these articles go to the stewards at stewards@williamsburgharvestcelebration.com. A steward, not a form, will answer.

What reading the almanac tells us

This site is a set of plain pages served from a web host. The host keeps an ordinary server log of each request: the page asked for, the time, the address of the network it came from, and the browser's self-description. We look at those logs when something breaks and roughly once a season to see which treatises are read. The logs are kept for ninety days and then discarded.

The feast provisioner on the almanac page runs entirely in your browser. The guest count, service style and oyster region you enter are never sent to us and are not stored anywhere when you leave the page.

The typefaces are fetched from a Google font service, which means your browser asks Google's servers for them and Google sees that request. We set no cookies of our own, run no advertising, and have installed no analytics scripts.

What writing to us tells us

If you write to the box office or the stewards, we have your email address, your name as you signed it, and whatever you told us. For a ticket reservation we also hold the sittings you booked, the number in your party and any dietary note you gave the kitchen. Payment is taken by a separate processor and the Society never sees or keeps a card number.

We use this to answer you, to seat you, to feed you safely, and to send one letter a season about the next festival. That letter has a line at the foot for asking not to receive it, and asking works.

What we will not do

  • We do not sell, rent, swap or lend the box-office list or the membership roll to anyone, including purveyors, cideries, or other festivals.
  • We do not profile readers, follow them across other sites, or buy information about them from anyone else.
  • We do not keep dietary notes past the sitting they were given for.

Who else may see it

The seating steward and the kitchen see reservation details for the sittings they are working. The web host and the email provider carry the data on their machines as part of serving the site and delivering the mail. If a Virginia court or a public-health officer lawfully requires a record, the Society will provide what is required and nothing more, and will tell the person concerned unless forbidden to.

How long we keep it

Box-office correspondence and reservation records are kept for two festival seasons, which lets us honour the early call for returning guests, and are then deleted. The membership roll is kept while membership continues and for one year after it lapses. The cellar book, the orchard records and the Society's minutes contain no personal information about readers or guests.

Your standing

You may inspect any correspondence held by our Prince George Street office, request clerical amendments, or direct us to strike it from the roll and the box-office record. Write to the stewards. We will answer within a month and will not charge for it. Residents of Virginia have rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act; readers elsewhere have whatever their own law gives them, and the Society will respect those rights to the extent it is able.

Children

Children are welcome at the roast and the pressing, with an adult, and the Society keeps no record of them beyond a head count. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under thirteen through this site.

Changes

If the Society changes how it keeps records, these articles will be revised and the date at the head of the page will change. Nothing in a revision will apply backwards to information already given under an earlier version.
